Ginger Deal??
The British Sun newspaper is reporting that the former Spice Girl Geri
Halliwell has a new solo record deal with Chrysalis Records. t's said that the
deal is a three album deal, but Chrysalis has not confirmed the report.
Spice Driver To Dish
The Spice Girls' former chauffeur has lots of "tittle-tattle" for a book and
went to court Tuesday seeking permission to write one. Paul Attridge asked a
judge to overturn a gag order granted the group in June. The Spice Girls got
the order after a newspaper story appeared in which Attridge speculated about
the reasons for Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell's departure. Attridge was
ordered not to disclose any information about the Spice Girls' love lives,
business affairs or spending habits. The Spice Girls and Halliwell have
sought jail time for Attridge, claiming he violated the order by failing to
hand over confidential material in his possession. Attridge's lawyer, Kevin
Garnett, said Attridge has only "tittle-tattle" and trivia about the women.
There was no word on when a ruling will be issued.
Billy Joel's Last Tour????
Billy Joel told the New York Daily News that his next concert tour may be his
last. Joel told the newspaper that he only "went on the stage to get girls,"
now he has a girlfriend and a daughter and doesn't need the "ego aspect of
performing." Joel also said that he and his artist girlfriend, Carolyn Beegan,
are planning to take 20 or 30 of his closest friends on a European Birthday
Bash next May 9 when he turns 50.
Pearl Jam Live
Sony Music in Germany confirmed Tuesday that a live Pearl Jam album will be
released on November 24th. The announcement comes on the heels of the band's
successful summer tour and unconfirmed reports from other European Sony
offices in the past week indicating that a live project was in the works. The
European release date does not necessarily indicate a simultaneous release
date in the U.S. No details as to the track listing or other packaging
information was immediately available, though a news report on the fan-run
Five Horizons web site pointed to rumors of a two-CD set aggregating material
from a cross-section of dates. Representatives from the band's U.S. label,
Epic Records, did not return calls for comment.
In August, Epic successfully forced Best Buy to back out of a high-profile
promotion which would have packaged a free CD of an Australian performance
with the first copies of the band's long-form video release Single Video
Theory at each of the chain's outlets. Pearl Jam's use of former Soundgarden
drummer Matt Cameron on their 1998 U.S. run infused the rhythm section of the
band with a new muscularity, and over the course of the tour several tracks
from the band's latest album release, Yield, took on a number of changes. The
evolution of the songs and the wide spectrum of material utilized throughout
the tour -- the band changed the set list from night to night -- provoked a
strong market for fan-recorded tapes (Pearl Jam is an outspoken proponent of
allowing fans to tape their concerts).
Men At Work Tour
Get your vegamite sandwiches ready! Men at Work are coming back to the U.S. in
October to launch a new tour. The Aussie band will be hitting the road to
support its recently-released live album, "Brazil," which chronicled Men At
Work's 1996 reunion tour of the South American country, the group's first
shows in some 10 years.
The tour is not a full-scale reformation of all of Men At Work's founding
members, but does include frontman Colin Hay and sax player Greg Ham from the
band's original line-up.
